Sweet Cottage Chic Birdhouse Set from Sweet Home Designs on Etsy

I just added another set to the Sweet Homes Designs Shop on Etsy!  It sort of reminds me of something with a Nordic cottage flair.  I used a punch to give the roof line a little texture and I think it gave it a gingerbread house feel.

This particular offering is a set.  I added the little "flower pot" votive to it so that the two pieces can be used together or separately.  They can be given as individual gifts or you can keep them for yourself, to be used as a centerpiece assortment, mantel display, or a shelf display.  Wherever you use them, I hope you're delighted!

Teddy Bear Picture from Sweet Home Designs

Hello everyone,

I've added a Teddy Bear Picture to the Sweet Home Designs Etsy Shop!  I thought it turned out pretty cute and I wanted to share it with you here. 

The colors are predominantly blues and greens, which would make it perfect for a boys room or nursery.  With that said, I love it for a little girl as well!  I think it could go either way!

 

I've placed it on a shelf here with a couple of my other SALE items.  I thought it would be fun to show them together!  I apologize for the glare on the glass, it's really hard to photograph.

 

I'm also offering customization for an additional fee.  Maybe a name or the date of birth, etc.

Magnolia Market Opens!

One of my favorite shows on television is "Fixer Upper" with Chip and Joanna Gaines!  I love everything about this couple!  I love their style, their love for each other, and their faith in a magnificent Lord!

Well, she's been working on opening her store called Magnolia Market and it's finally happened!  Not only does it have a physical local, but it also has an online market as well.

Per her style, it's comfortable, homey living at it's best!

 Take a moment to look over all she has to offer...enjoy the quiet peacefulness of the decor.

Joanna and Chip give so much of themselves to everything they do and you can see it in every piece that has been selected for her shop!  Just lovely!

When Showers Come Often Times Flowers Grow

I remember when I was a little girl I'd sing a little song:

Do you remember feeling that way?  We always want the sun to shine and the rain to stop, but we often forget that without the rain there is no growth.  Sometimes, the things that bring us discomfort for a moment are the very things the Lord is going to use to bring us strength; to help us better understand the sorrow of others and to grow stronger in spite of our short lived "soggy" feeling.

Sweet Home Designs Additions for Christmas

Hi everyone! I know it's not even Halloween, but if you're like me, you're already beginning to think about those Christmas gifts for the special people in your life. 

I added a couple of sets to the shop that I think would make great teacher, secret pal, mail person, neighbor type gifts.  The cost is low, so you won't break the bank, and I'm sure that you'll see a smile on their face when they open their adorable handmade items.

The set above is made in soft shades of browns and reds...definitely the feel of Christmas in a more country setting.  Below, is a more traditional Christmas set.  I added glitter and sparkle with truly Christmas reds and greens, so much fun!

Last Month's Vendor Fair Table

Last month I had the privilege of participating in a Vendor Fair!  I thought I would take a moment and share my table with you.  It was only a one day fair, but it gives you a good idea of the types of things I have available.

As you can see, we were at a facility that has a gym!  LOL!  The traffic at the fair was steady and they were delighted to see what I had to offer.

Did I mention that I do custom orders as well?!

Note Cards for the Shop

I decided it was time for me to get busy posting items to the shop!  I added these little note cards today.  I thought they turned out pretty cute and these are always fun to have around!  Quick notes of thanks, appreciation, or messages of love to share.

They come in a set of six and are handmade, one of a kind!  They make great gifts for teachers, mail personnel, secret pals, etc.

Sometimes We Need a "Tap" on our Heart

There have been times in my life when I have let the concerns of this world take over.  I've laid in bed, or woken in the middle of the night wondering what I could do to "fix" this or stop something from happening.

The funny thing about this is, most of the time, there was absolutely nothing I could do!  I couldn't fix it, change it, or make it not happen.  But there I laid, stewing, tossing and turning, and carrying the burdens of family, world, and life.

 

It is within in those moments that the Lord 'taps' my heart and says this to me:

25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matt. 6:25-34)

When I remember that He is in control, that my worries and concerns, add nothing to my life and the He loves me more than anyone.  I am at peace.  Lord thank you for the wonder and reminder of your love! 

Adding a Few Items for Fall

I love this time of year.  I love watching the colors change...shifting from vibrant greens to bright yellows, oranges, and reds!  Everything comes to life in a new way, even though we are marking the end of a season.  God is good, even in the passing of life there is rebirth and newness.

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. ..Ecclesiastes 3:1

My Mom passed away 2 years ago September 27th.  She never liked the Fall.  She said it reminded her of death and dying.  I told her that that was true, but without death there can be no rebirth, no new life.  She agreed, from then on we'd talk about the leaves crackling under our feet and how good the crispness in the air felt.

I decided to create a couple of new birdhouses commemorating the Fall season.  If she were here, she would have said, "Oh Honey, I love them!"  I miss those words of encouragement, the love that flowed through every comment she made to me.  

 

Hold close those you love...remember to tell them how much they mean to you and how very important they are to your life.  You never know what tomorrow might bring.

Country Chic Love Bird and Heart Set

Hello everyone!  I added a couple of items to the Etsy Shop Sweet Home Designs and thought I'd share them with you! 

First up is this adorable Country Chic Love Bird Plaque.  The Love Bird plaque measures approximately 5 x 5 1/2 inches.  It's meant to have a Shabby Country Chic look.

I used this Country Chic napkin holder to help me display it for you.  It has a little twine hanger so that you can easily hang it up ...but wait....there's more :D

I decided to make it a set!  I added this adorable Heart with it.  The heart measures about 3 1/2 x 3 1/2.  Both can be hung or placed in an enclosed shelf, or on a mantle surrounded by the Willow people for an adorable display!

DIY Mason Jar Light

DIY Cottage Chic/Shabby Chic Miniature Flower Pots

Hey Everyone!  Thanks again for stopping by Sweet Home Designs!

Today I've put together a couple of really sweet Shabby Chic Miniature Pots!

These items have been posted in my Etsy Shop!  Please stop by and have a look!

What you'll need to recreate these items:

Glass Votive Holder
Martha Stewart Multi-Surface Paint
Oven (for curing)
Charms
Dried Flowers
Moss
Twine
Raffia
Sandpaper
Tacky Glue
Buttons

Instructions:
Using a sponge paint brush and Martha Stewart's multi-surface paint, paint your glass votive with 2 coats of paint.  Wait an hour between coats for better coverage.

After painting the votive, place it on a cookie sheet (an old one), and bake it in the oven @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Turn off the oven and let them cool in the oven.  This will cure the paint.

Then use the sandpaper to scuff up the outside to give it that cute Shabby Chic look!

I took some raffia and twine and wrapped underneath the lip of the votive.  I glued it with Fast Grab Tacky Glue.  Then I took some flowers and arranged them along with some charms and buttons.

I decided to add the dried moss for fun, topped with a couple more flowers!

I Love Little Storage Jars!

Hey everyone!

Thanks again for stopping by Sweet Home Designs.  Today I added an adorable Storage Jar to my Etsy Shop.

This was another easy project to put together and would make a really nice teacher gift, Secret Pal gift, or "Make her Smile" gift.

I headed over to my favorite craft store, one of them anyway, and found this little jar.  It was too cute to pass up so I brought it home and decorated it for gift giving!  I used some florals I purchased from Wild Orchid Flowers and my button and twine was from Stampin' Up!

 

I think it turned out pretty cute!  It was fun to do and I hope that whoever selects it is happy to give it! Or keep it ;)  I mean, you can always use another piece of "cuteness" around...right?

DIY Cute Mason Jars

Hey everyone!

Thanks for joining me today!  I added a couple great Cottage Chic gift/home decor items to my Etsy Shop Sweet Home Designs.

I found this DIY video and decided to give it a try.  This was really fun and easy to accomplish.

Basically, you head over to your favorite craft store and pick out a couple of Mason Jars.  Any brand will do.  I chose Kerr.  The video also recommended Martha Stewart's Multi-Surface Craft Paint.

You basically, paint the jars with 2 coats of paint.  Waiting an hour between each coat.  If you don't wait long enough the first coat begins to "gum" up and pull away from the jar...so waiting is good!

After both coats are applied; put your jars in the oven at 350' for 30 minutes.  Yup, you're baking the jars.  Then leave them in the oven until it has completely cooled down.  Pull out the jars and your ready for distressing.

I used a mild grain of sand paper and gently rubbed over the writing on the jars.  I also "scuffed" up the jars themselves for an additional Cottage Chic look.  As you can see, I added a few embellishments and Wah-Lah!  They were complete!

I Made a New Card Today

There are times when you just feel like creating something.  Today it was a card.

I used some of my stamps and punches from Stampin' Up! and some of my stamps from Lili of the Valley.  I think together they made a lovely card.

 

I'm considering having a little show to sell some of the cards and birdhouses I've made, but I'm not

sure on a price.  They do take some time, and the use of some product and I do need to make a little money to keep my "hobby" alive!

What's so great about going inactive in a business?  Many people might get discouraged when they've been unable, for whatever reason, to maintain their monthly or quarterly quotas.  They may think that they might as well give up!
